Yeah yeah, I know it’s not Friday, but I didn’t want to do a Monday Link Post, that would just set the wrong expectations. Here’s some linky goodness for you:
- Something to chew on Homesick Texan
Saw this on the news stand last night in the grocery store - Texas Monthly’s annual barbecue review. The best barbecue in Texas according to TM is in Lexington, Texas - about an hour towards Houston from Austin (road trip anyone?) at Snow’s BBQ.…a small restaurant open only on Saturdays and only from eight in the morning until whenever the meat runs out, usually around noon.
- Snackr
It’s an Adobe AIR RSS ticker for your desktop, I’ve been using it at work and it’s a pretty good way to some random exposure to those other feeds in your feed reader. It’s an RSS ticker that pulls random items from your feeds and scrolls them across your desktop. When you see a title that looks interesting, you can click on it to pop up the item in a window.
- Secrets to smart decisions when you graduate from college Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist
I think Penelope is on to something here, recent graduates should read this. The transition from college to adulthood might be the hardest one we make in our whole lives. After we spend twenty years learning how to get good grades, we go into a workforce where those skills are largely irrelevant.
- As Primaries End, Clinton Appeals Directly to Blogs New York Times
I’m not closely connected to the campaigning at this point, (Disclaimer: I do support Obama) but I just don’t get the right sort of impression from Clinton about this. Doing something like this just sounds like she is grasping at straws, while the Obama campaign’s efforts online feel more genuine and authentic. Her Democratic opponent, Mr. Obama, has been credited with using it better, especially for organizing and social networking. But Mr. Obama himself has yet to join a blogger-only conference call.
(Oddly, perhaps, Mr. McCain — the likely Republican nominee who, at 71, jokes about being older than the Internet itself — holds blogger conference calls regularly, though his online fund-raising lags behind his Democratic rivals. )
Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day!
