Friday Link Post: Metal Politics, Retirement and More

Got a good mix for you today, have a great weekend!

  • DISTURBED Frontman Calls HILLARY CLINTON ‘A Liar’, Says His ‘Heart Is With OBAMA’ Blabbermouth
Oh man, I saw this headline in my feed reader and larfed a little inside. I do have to hand it to David Draiman, he may be a bit weird, but he’s a smart guy.

Q: What do you think about the next presidential election in the USA?

Draiman: “This may be the first election in three that I will vote. My heart is with [Democratic presidential candidate Barack] Obama, but my political scientist head knows our country and, unfortunately, I think that the reality of the situation… and it’s not necessarily so unfortunate because he is more intelligent, better educated, better speaking and certainly more of a warrior than President Bush ever was and ever will be — [Republican presidential candidate] John McCain. So my heart is with Obama, but my head is with McCain.”

  • How Much Money Is “Walk Away From It All” Money? The Simple Dollar
I think this is a good discussion; wouldn’t it be cool to have enough saved up to just walk away for a while (or even just retire)
  • Another Anatomy Dreamhost Blog
Description I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Dreamhost has a fantastic corporate blog, this was a post that describes a problem that they have been having with some of their servers, where they give a step by step on what happened, how it happened, and what they’ve done to resolve it in plain English!

I realize this is probably too little too late for many of you, but I just wanted to sincerely apologize for this whole big Blingy cluster-f*ck.

    Straight talkers! I like that.

  • And All That Could Have Been (One Year Later) Deus Ex Malcontent
It has been one year since the Virginia Tech shooting, Chez had a great post about his reaction on that day and learning about a victim from her Myspace. I’ve seen it when people have died before, their social media profiles become memorial walls. Here’s hoping we don’t ever have to see something like what happened in Blacksburg again.

I’m not sure what led me to search MySpace for profiles of some of the dead; I’d like to believe that it was an honest desire to find out who these kids really were — what they loved and hated, what they wanted for themselves and their futures before it was all ripped away from them by someone who had a plan for their lives they weren’t even aware of, nor could they stop.
