I spent a couple of hours last night upgrading WordPress from 2.3 to 2.5, all appears to have gone smoothly (let me know if you see anything to the contrary). Before I launched it over here, I followed Solo Technology’s guide for testing new WordPress versions on my home computer - make sure to check out all four posts.
I followed his instructions for doing the testing, but once I verified that everything worked, I brought it back to my webhost using these instructions from the Wordpress Codex, perhaps not the most elegant way to do it, but it worked - total downtime was approximately 22 minutes, according to Twitter:
davidgiesberg And we’re back, looks like WP 2.5 is good to go. Let me know if you see anything weird (other than the content) on http://davidgiesberg.com davidgiesberg davidgiesberg.com is going down for (hopefully) just a few minutes, will return shortly
Also, while I did the upgrade, I cleaned some stuff up and added some new plugins and enabled older ones, including:
- wp-cache - A faster experience for everyone that visits the site
- Find Me - In the right sidebar, a set of buttons to find me on my most used web services
- Share This - The fancy shmancy button below this post, use it!
- WordPress Mobile Edition - If you are visiting this site with a mobile device, it should be super readable.
- About - Updated with the bio that I wrote for Brazen Careerist.

You are much more careful than me. I spent all of 30 seconds upgrading to 2.5; I use SVN, and none of this testing the waters for me.
