Well, I am getting back into the groove after returning from vacation, just made my way through a major programming project and itching to get some good writing in. I’m working on some stuff for this blog that should allow me to build some more structure into my writing and help with the regularity of my posts. Let me know if you like what you see by leaving a comment!
- I am returning from my Spring Break, but some people are just getting started. Matt Goldberg of The Big Transition is talking about how to make vacations less needed, and the majority of your life more enjoyable. I like his thoughts on mass transit as a way to escape the regular routine and disconnect and finding what simple pleasures make you happy.
- Zen Habits has a great roundup on how to take the lifestyle of a Zen monk and apply many of its lessons to how you and I live our daily lives. As usual, Leo is dead on with this one; I already try to do a lot of these things, and I think it has really helped me with maintaining sanity in an otherwise crazy day-to-day existence.
- Remember back in the day, when Apple wasn’t all about iPods and MacBooks? People were saying that Apple’s days were numbered, including Wired. One of their suggestions:
“Outsource your hardware production, or scrap it entirely.” Hmm. Today, 83 percent of Apple’s revenue comes from sales of hardware like iPods, iMacs, and iPhones.
- Finally, here is a little bit of late SXSWi commentary from @Pistachio, she is talking about how after the event was over, she still felt like she had missed things. Her approach to big events like this is to allow your experience to be “socially mediated” - let your experience be more than your direct personal experience, but afterwards, share and take in other people’s experiences. I like this theory and think it can be broadly applicable to information sharing and aggregation on the Internet.? Her example: Absorb as much information as you can or want to through your feed reader, and then for whatever you might miss, someone else will catch it and share it. I think I will have to write more about this later
