The Texas Primary is Tomorrow - Are You Going to Caucus?

Texans: Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Texas is holding its primary election tomorrow, and for the first time in a long time, Texas actually matters to the outcome of the Democratic Presidential Primary. There are two key things going on:

  • Polling - If you didn’t vote early, I’m sorry. It sounds like it is going to be crazy out there tomorrow - make sure to bring something to do while you wait in line at your precinct’s polling place (Travis County voters can find their polling place here). The Democrats will be splitting 126 delegates based on the results of polling
  • Caucuses - After the polls close tomorrow, Democrats convene at their precinct’s polling place at 7:15 (or after the last person has voted) and Republicans are at 8:00. For information on how caucuses actually work, the Texas Observer has some good information. The basic idea behind the Democratic caucuses is to reward campaigns that get a real grassroot effort going, I guess the idea is that only the truly crazy dedicated will be out there. 67 delegates will be distributed based on the results of caucusing.

I am planning on attending my precinct’s caucus tomorrow night, I have no idea what to expect and I’m not particularly gung-ho about this stuff, but this sort of thing is a once in a blue moon sort of event, right?

And of course, remember to vote early, and vote often!
