State of the Website

Well, I am proud to report that just hours before the end of January, davidgiesberg dot com had its 500th visitor of the month, a huge jump over the last couple of months. No doubt, blog365 is the reason why so many people have seen this site. I am still getting into the habit of writing for this blog every day, but I am keeping up. My writing is developing, I am still finding my voice, I’m jumping into the blogosphere in a way and re-entering online communities in a way I haven’t since high school, when I was a forum junkie (woot Gen[M]ay).

Most of the traffic here is legitimate, as opposed to last year, when comment spam was a big source of traffic on the site, but it was virtually eliminated overnight by adding the reCAPTCHA to the comment form. It’s pretty cool, you should read about how it works - long story short, it uses scanned in words that OCR can’t read alongside a regular CAPTCHA, that way we are fighting spam and helping digitize literature at the same time, quite clever.

Going forward, I want to be delivering more content that is insanely useful to the people that come to the site. I want to be able to explore and share things that are important to me that I think that others will find useful. Just look at the tag cloud to the left side of the page (in the present layout, anyways), the biggest words are the tags that are most commonly used on this site, like student, finance, productivity, and howto.

In short, the State of the Website is strong, and optimistic. My fellow blog365′ers, surfers, and facebook friends, join me as we venture forward into February!
