Howto Fix Thunder Bolt CF CardReader

I started having problems with my card reader a couple of months ago, where it would no longer be recognized as an actual drive - instead it was being recognized by Windows as a VX7012 (some sort of “Advanced USB Video Capture” device). Here is what I did in Windows Vista (XP instructions are basically the same thing) in order to get it working again:
- Download this driver pack from SmartDisk. (See their Knowledge Base article 1192)
- Extract the zip file somewhere on your PC
- Open Computer Management (Right-click My Computer -> Manage or Run -> compmgmt.msc)
- Device Manager will be one of the icons on the left
- Find the VX7012 device and right-click-> Update Driver Software)
- Click Browse My Computer for driver software
- Go to where the driver pack was extracted, then into Thunderbolt Drivers\WinXP
- Click Next and Windows will do its voodoo and you will be all set up.
